Design Criteria

.20 gpm for 1,500 sq ft.
This system is designed for Ordinary Hazard Group II Occupancy using 165 degree sprinklers. With this design there should be on storage of Class I through IV Commodities over 12’-0" high, solid pile or in-racks, nor highly combustible or flammable material such as rubber, group A plastics, flammable liquids, idle pallets, etc over 6’-0" high.

.33 gpm for 3,000 sq ft.
This system, with 286 degree fire sprinklers, will allow 20’-0" high rack storage of Class III Non-encapsulated Commodities on conventional pallets with 8’-0" aisles and no in-rack fire sprinklers. (NFPA 231C, 1995 edition, Figure 6-12 (c))

.45 gpm for 3,000 sq ft.
This system, with 286 degree fire sprinklers, will allow 20’-0" high storage of Class IV Non-encapsulated Commodities on conventional pallets with 8’-0" aisles and no in-rack fire sprinklers. (NFPA 231C, 1995 edition, Figure 6-12(d))

.60 gpm for 3,000 sq ft.
This system, with 286 degree fire sprinklers, will allow 25’-0" high storage of Class III Non-encapsulated commodities on conventional pallets with 8’-0" aisles and no in-rack fire sprinklers. (NFPA 231C, 1995 edition, Figure 6-12(c) and Figure 6-9.2). In addition this configuration would also allow 22’-0" high storage of Class IV Non-encapsulated Commodities on conventional pallets with 8’-0" aisles and no in-rack fire sprinklers (NFPA 231C, 1995 edition, Figure 6-12 (d) and Figure 6-9.2)

Note: Other storage arrangements are possible with the design criteria shown.

50 PSI Starting Pressure allows for cartoned unexpanded plastics; cartoned expanded plastic; uncartoned expanded plastic; and Class I, II, III and IV Commodities, encapsulated or unencapsulated. In a building with a maximum roof height of 30’-0" and a maximum storage height of 25’-0" (no in-rack fire sprinklers).

75 PSI Starting Pressure allows for cartoned unexpanded plastics; and Class I, II, III and IV Commodities, encapsulated or unencapsulated. In a building with a maximum roof height of 40’-0" and a maximum storage height of 35’-0"(no in-rack fire sprinklers).

90 PSI Starting Pressure allows for cartoned unexpanded plastics; and Class I, II, III and IV Commodities, encapsulated or unencapsulated. In a building with a maximum roof height of 45’-0" and a maximum storage height of 40’-0"(one level of in-rack fire sprinklers).
